Congo Tourism Gate has been raising awareness to poaching. We aimt to educate the public not only through our community outreach programs based in the city of Goma, but also through tourism, and our new Brand.
Tourism is a huge benefactor to any economy, but in the Congo, it brings in nearly 40% revenue to their national parks. A single gorilla trekking permit can be very costly. This all helps conserve African wildlife, such as the Mountain Gorilla.
In the past, we saw numbers decline to bare minimum, and in 2021 their populations reached JUST over one thousand individuals in the wild. That number can be cut in half over night due to poaching. The organization we're partnered with is our frontline to helping these animals.
In addition to that, we work hand in hand with the national parks. Our classes get to visit these parks and see the gorillas firsthand. It is truly incredible work that they are doing and we are honored to be a part of it.
